Crete village officials last week canceled the upcoming board meeting scheduled for Monday, May 27, and approved local events to honor the Memorial Day holiday.
Village Administrator Michael Smith told the board that the village is set for the annual Memorial Day Parade on May 27. The Memorial Day Service will be held in Crete Park, at 11 a.m., and the parade will follow at noon.
At the same time, the Crete Area Chamber of Commerce reminded the board Cruise Nights will begin in downtown Crete on Monday, June 3, and will be held every Monday night through August.
In other business, Village President Michael Einhorn appointed Ryan Allison as Emergency Management Agency Director and Code Enforcement Supervisor. His appointment vote by the trustees was unanimous. Director Allison was sworn into both positions and will start immediately.
During Trustee Reports, Building and Grounds Trustee John Phelan told the board all summer plantings are in the ground. He was commended for the work he and his wife have done.
Finance, License and Ordinance Trustee Mark Wiater commented on the great turn out at the blood drive held at the fire department on Saturday, May 11. Approximately 48 donors participated.
Water Trustee Stephen Johnson reported maintenance work on the water towers is nearing completion. He also attended the Crete Community Clean-Up Day held last month and complimented the participants.
President Michael Einhorn reported he attended a pre-construction meeting with Iroquois Paving for the upcoming road resurfacing project. No start date has been set.
Village Administrator Michael Smith reported bid results for the Lead Service Line Replacement Program were opened on May 13. A recommendation from the village engineers will be coming at a future meeting. He reported the Beckwith water main installation is progressing.
Trustees approved an ordinance authorizing the village president, who also serves as the liquor commissioner, to delegate some of the liquor commissioner duties in the event the village president is absent or unable to attend a hearing.
