#7 – Peotone Travel Center Construction Slated for Summer
A truck stop planned for west of the Peotone I-57 interchange sparked a lot of interest in 2022. The project, which originally began the development process in 2018, was delayed by procedures and agreements for nearly three years. Variances passed for the truck stop in June, leaving the truck stop construction to start just as the good weather ended. Nonetheless, Developer Suhas Patel broke ground and is making progress. This was our seventh most popular story of 2022.

The proposed truck stop that has been in the works for three years may finally have a start date. According to Village President Peter March, the long awaited $26M Peotone Travel Center is slated to break ground this summer.
The first phase will be construction of the travel center and truck stop that is expected to take 16-18 months. The truck stop is expected to be 18,000 square feet and include three different fast food restaurants which have not been named. It will also include 12 diesel pumps and 14 gas pumps long with a lounge area, showers, fitness center, laundry facility, truck wash, and video gaming. The truck stop is expected to accommodate parking for more than 200 trucks.
The second phase will include construction of a four-story Holiday Inn Express, with 80-90 rooms, and will begin in 2024.
Project developer Suhas Patel has constructed a similar truck stop and three hotels in Bolingbrook.
Village Administrator Aimee Ingalls confirmed the right-of-way for road expansion had been obtained from Illinois Valley Farms through a settlement with the village. An eminent domain case was filed by the village but, to avoid a trial, the parties entered into a settlement agreement.
President March added, “We are looking forward to the travel center being the first of many developments at our I-57 interchange. Besides supporting our current businesses, the board feels it is important to attract new commercial and industrial properties to the community. These added businesses will increase our property tax base, as well as increase our sales tax revenue. Without added revenue, our village will be severely hamstrung as to improving the look and amenities of our community due to our large pension obligations.”
