Multi-Vehicle Accident at Wilmington-Peotone Road
On Wednesday, June 1, at approximately 3:30 p.m., a female driver of a Nissan, age 21, from Indiana, was traveling westbound on Wilmington-Peotone Road. Through the Will County Sheriff’s Office accident reconstruction, it was determined the female driver attempted to pass a a slower moving semi-tractor trailer in the eastbound lane but caught the edge of the pavement and hit gravel. Also in the eastbound lane was a 2007 Mack Tractor fuel tanker driven by an unidentified 56-year-old man from Braidwood.
The female driver tried to drive back into the westbound lane at the same time the semi-driver tried to stop the truck to avoid the collision. The truck wound up going into the westbound lane and the front driver’s side of the semi crashed into the female driver’s Nissan, causing it to be pushed into a ditch.
A third vehicle, a 2006 Acura, driven by a 46-year-old male, was traveling west and took action to avoid the accident and drove into the north side ditch into a cornfield.
Peotone Fire Department responded to the crash and and advised Will County Sheriff’s the female driver of the Nissan Rogue was deceased on arrival. The Will County Coroner’s office was contacted.
Peotone Fire Department also advised diesel fuel was seen leaking out of a semi-tractor trailer that also was involved in the accident. A hazmat team was called, and the area was cleaned.
The drivers of the Acura and the Mack Truck were not injured. An autopsy is being performed on the deceased female.
