Fatal Crash at Peotone-Wilmington Road and Rt. 45
The Manhattan Fire Protection District reported that on Sunday, March 19, at approximately 8:20 a.m., the Manhattan Fire Protection District (MFPD) was dispatched to a reported auto accident at the intersection of Rt. 45 and Peotone-Wilmington Road.
Upon arrival, fire crews found three vehicles with heavy damage. One of the vehicles was on fire and fully involved. A full still alarm was called for additional resources.
Two patients were transported to local hospitals and two others succumbed to their injuries on scene. Will County Sheriff’s and Illinois State Police responded and closed the intersection for accident reconstruction. The intersection is expected to be closed for several hours.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene and the Manhattan Fire Stations to provide coverage for any additional calls for service during that time. These included: Monee, Beecher, University Park, New Lenox, East Joliet, Manteno, and Frankfort. Will County EMA and Manhattan EMA both assisted in traffic control.
