Carol Van Arkel
On Monday, August 14, 2023, Carol Van Arkel, 74, of Peotone, passed away at home with dignity, after battling cancer. She was surrounded in her last days by her family and loved ones. Carol was a special person to so many people – very spiritual, kind, and loving. She was the daughter of Donald and Cecil Van Arkel, who both predeceased her.
Carol was a graduate of Mother McAuley Liberal Arts School. She had a diversified work history, including being a gifted caregiver, selling boom lifts, a designer-decorator (furniture/set maker for the film “Dennis the Menace”), a licensed esthetician and beautician, massage therapist and Reiki master, and an accomplished and juried watercolor, oil, and pastel artist.
She is survived by her daughters, Cara (Mike) Grant and Gina (Steve) Proper, both of Chicago; proud “Nana” to grandchildren, Lilly, Maura, Megan, and Rose Grant and Gavin Proper; brother, William Van Arkel of Chicago; sisters, Janet (Neil) Linehan and Debra Richards, also of Chicago; and partner, Steve Tongren of Peotone.
There will be a Memorial Mass in her honor at St. Germaine Catholic Church, 9711 S. Kolin Avenue, Oak Lawn, on Saturday, August 26, at 10:30 a.m. Share a memory at www.feddehelfrichcrossfh.com.
