Asylum Seekers Arrive in the South Suburbs
By Andrea Arens
The City of Chicago passed an ordinance last week allowing the city to impound and fine the drivers of buses of migrants who do not receive a permit from the Chicago Department of Transportation.
As a result, buses of migrants are arriving in the south suburbs, and plenty of other home rule suburbs are adopting ordinances to stop bus drivers from dropping off unscheduled passengers.
Tinley Park passed their ordinance December 19, and University Park passed theirs December 20.
University Park received at least two buses containing 40 or so migrants this week at the Metra station. With no warning, the delivery left University Park officials scrambling to care for them.
Many migrants were dropped off the bus without socks or coats, some only carrying blankets or sheets in 20 degree weather and hovering under the stairs of the Metra station.
Mayor Joseph Roudez III said at the emergency meeting on December 20, “We all care about people. We just don’t have the resources to accommodate them.”
The University Park ordinance that was unanimously passed was similar to other municipalities in establishing a protocol to submit an application for a bus of migrants to arrive with five days advance notice and a specific time, Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The ordinance also would allow for the police department to fine unscheduled buses of migrants $750 per passenger, per bus.
At the board meeting, Business Manager Elizabeth Scott said she had contacted Will County Emergency Management and found there was no plan in place to care for the migrants. A plan would be forthcoming for reimbursement of expenses, but that had yet to be developed.
Police Chief Dale Mitchell also said the village needs to be aware that migrants also are arriving by train, after receiving services from Chicago and a train ticket.
Migrants also were dropped off in Kankakee and received transportation to the county line on Rte. 50. A group of about 13 of them was spotted on Rt. 50 just south of Peotone on the morning of December 21. Many were not dressed for the weather and were seen walking north. Transportation to Chicago was arranged for them. More are expected.

They have arrived in the city of Elgin Il
I’ve been to Elgin, They will blend right in.
Thank You Mr President
Biden condemned this, quit blaming Biden for republican gov Abbott’s actions. He should have returned them to Mexico not paid to send them further into the country.
Biden reinstated the catch and release policy Trump ended. The Biden policy is catch and release illegals into the USA. I don’t fault Texas. They should not have to bear the burden of taking in millions of illegals on there own. But they send 40 to a sanctuary city and they start complaining. Bidens fault 100%
Yep.
Perhaps our border should have remained secure. That’s not Abbott’s fault. If he returns them, they will return right back through that open border. ?♀️
This is some bull****!!!! We can take carenof our own but taking care of folks who don’t belong here. This not what my MF taxpayer dollars are meant for!!!!
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? well dang
I agree with 110%. It’s ridiculous.
Go home to all these migrants and fix your own Country. Our country is going to have some type of plague in the next 5 years because of these people.
I agree! They should stay in their own country. We have homeless people here that we can’t take care of. What is this country coming to!!
Right on. If not a health plague a social one. There are people who can’t get public aid so they can survive while trying to go to school or look for employment yet these migrants keep coming by the bus load. And are being taken care of.
If u are not a descendant of Cherokee, chotaw….please refrain from saying who do or don’t belong.
I agree! This is just getting ridiculous, I’m worried about health hazards..have any of these had the basic vaccinations? Been checked for diseases? Criminal background? Sure, just dump them on us and expect US to take care of them! The next bus load should unload in front of the White House!
Wow! I like that idea.
Do you think those tribes just grew out of the soil? They viciously slaughtered each other nonstop. Have you ever thought about that?
I whole heartedly agree with you 100%. I keep saying what about our Vets and the homeless? We scrambled and got accommodations for these immigrants not to mention funding, healthcare and yet we can’t do nothing for our own? They say they’ll get them jobs but whatabout the people who take advantage of the welfare system? Take away their privileges get them into yhe workforce. How very sad this state is.

Tell Gov Greg Abbott that, he took it on himself to forward migrants caught in Texas to other places in the UA instead of sending them home to Mexico. Your GOP at work..
Yep.
Right.
Agreed.
I Agree.

Jenny, what nationality brought all the different plagues when they landed in America?
??? that’s true!!
Yes slash, they don’t understand that their ancestors were placed on a boat to get rid of them. Most were criminal, sick and non educated. Not all but most.
They wouldn’t be here if they didn’t migrate them.
Thank you Slash.
Biden should have been impeached the second he decided to make the open border policy!!!
Right because calling a riot on your own capitol is better?

We need Trump!
The border needs to be 100% closed and secure. Everyone here illegally should be deported. If you disagree, you can let them into your home and you can take care of them, but you’d never do that because you know it’s insane. Illegal immigration shouldn’t even be possible, but whoever makes the decisions for Biden decided that instead of being deported, these people can use their arrest warrants for ID and fly to whichever city they choose – for free! Do you all enjoy watching the government use the money they have stolen from you to lower your quality of life and support crime? I don’t.
