Milford Ends ILHS’s Volleyball Season

Monday, October 24, Illinois Lutheran began the post season with a quarterfinal match at the 1A Regional in Grant Park. Seeded ninth, the Chargers took on the sixth seed from Morgan Park Academy. The Chargers started the first set with a 9-1 lead. They continued to build the lead behind strong serving and were up 18-7 after the first six rotations. The Chargers, then, finished the first set with a 25-10 win.

Morgan Park Academy didn’t give up and came out stronger in the second set, which had several ties and lead changes, but the Chargers kept fighting and took the second set and the match 25-21.

Kate Latzke led the servers with 12 service points, five of which were aces. Ryleigh Peters had 3 aces, and Kailey Van Es added two, while  Anna Oestmann and Zoe Biesterfeld each added one. Zoe led the offense with 6 kills, with Kate adding four. Seven other players each added one kill.

Anna Oestmann led the defense with 5 digs and Zoe, Ryleigh, and Emma Nagle each had 3 digs. Nagle also had 9 assists. The Chargers are now 10-25 and will play Wednesday, in a semifinal match with the No. 2 seed, Milford.

On October 26, Illinois Lutheran saw their volleyball season come to an end, with a semi-final loss to Milford at the Grant Park 1A Regional. The Chargers struggled in the first set and lost 8-25, but they were determined to play better in the second set and fought hard, though ultimately losing 18-25.

Senior libero, Ryleigh Peters had a good defensive match, ending the night with 12 digs, eight of which came in the second set. Senior outside hitter, Zoe Biesterfeld, ended with 6 kills and 5 digs. The Chargers ended their season with a record of 10-26.
