Lionel L. Brashares
Lionel L. Brashares, 65, of Peotone, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at his home. He was born on November 26, 1957, in Chicago.
A U.S. Navy Veteran, Lionel married Frances L. Dutton on May 12, 1979, in Markham. He enjoyed sports and was a passionate official for softball and volleyball and served on the Peotone Park District Board for more than 10 years. Most of all, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Lionel is survived by his wife, Frances L. Brashares; children, Jeffrey (Alyssa) Brashares, Jake (Raeanna) Brashares, James (Natalie) Brashares, and Deanna (Dwayne) Smith; grandchildren, Clara, Sophie, Emma, and Logan Brashares; brother, Jason Brashares; and sisters, Victoria Brashares and Deborah Joy Singer. He was preceded in death by his parents, C.L. and Celestina (Lopez) Smith; and a brother, Cephas Smith.
Visitation will be held at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home, 112 W. Main Street, Peotone, on Thursday, June 15, from 3 – 8 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m., with Father Roger Kutzner officiating. A prayer service will be held at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home on Friday, June 16, at 8:30 a.m. Committal service and military honors will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. Memorials may be directed to the wishes of the family.
