Knot Just for Knitters, from 1 – 2 p.m., ages 11/adult: Socialize with us while working on knitting, crocheting, or any other type of needlework project. Drop in.

The Historical Wizard of Oz, from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m., adults: Librarian Laura Keyes will separate fact from fiction as she shares the fantastic story of L. Frank Baum, the amazing man who brought us “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” Please note: This program consists of viewing a video at the library of the speaker presenting, rather than a live presentation. The video also will be available to watch from home June 2–13. Register.

Monday, June 5

Adult Writing Group, from 6:30 – 8 p.m., adults: Join novice and experienced writers alike and hear their stories, as well as share your own. Drop in.

Tuesday, June 6

Stories and Snacks in the Park, from 3 – 3:30 p.m., families: Please join Ms. Kerry on Tuesdays in the gazebo at Crete Park for this interactive storytime. A free snack will be available for your child(ren) during the event. Drop in.

Navigate Your Stars – A Conversation with Jesmyn Ward, from 7 – 8 p.m., Zoom, adults: Join us online for an evening with two-time National Book Award winner Jesmyn Ward. Hailed as “the new Toni Morrison,” by the American Booksellers Association, Jesmyn will discuss her life, literary vision, and unique perspectives on love and loss. Register.

Wednesday, June 7

SNAP Help, from 1 – 4 p.m., adults: A SNAP Outreach Coordinator for the Northern Illinois Food Bank will assist people with filling out applications for the Illinois Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), also known as Food Stamps or Link Card. Drop in.

Silent Book Club, from 6 – 7:30 p.m., adults: To join, bring or check out a book, turn off your notifications and put away your phone, then meet us at the seating area by the fireplace. We’ll read for an hour, then chat about our books. There’s no assigned reading, choose your own book to read. Drop in.

Thursday, June 8

AARP Smart Driver Course, from noon – 4 p.m., adults: Refresh your driving skills and knowledge of the rules of the road. Cost is $20 for AARP members and $25 for nonmembers. The class continues the following day from noon – 4 p.m.

Summer Reading Kickoff Party, from 5 – 7 p.m., all ages: The party will feature a magician, petting zoo, face painting, bounce slide, and games for kids! Sign-up for Summer Reading and receive a free hot dog and chips. Drop in.

Trivia Night at Evil Horse, from 7 – 9 p.m., adults: This month’s trivia theme is Saturday Morning Cartoons. Compete on your own or bring a group of friends. Prizes will be awarded. Seating is first come, first served.

Saturday, June 10

Worldwide Knit in Public Day, from 9:30 a.m. – noon, all ages: Bring a lawn chair and knitting to this outdoor event. Register.

Family BeeSpotters, from 10 – 11 a.m., families with children ages six and older: Join us as we learn more about the BeeSpotter citizen science project and bees.
