Clemens ‘Sonny’ Vehrs Jr.
Clemens W. “Sonny” Vehrs Jr., 75, of Manteno, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2023, at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee. Born on March 23, 1948, in Chicago Heights, he was the son of Clemens and Dolores (Grant) Vehrs Sr. He married Karen Godier on January 22, 1981, in Fort Myers, Florida.
Sonny was an instrument electrician most of his life, until retiring from Innophos, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, proudly serving from 1968 – 1969. He also was an avid NASCAR enthusiast and loved his Corvettes and traveling in them. Most of all, Sonny loved spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife, Karen of Manteno; son-in-law, John Sportiello of Manteno; daughter, Janette (David) Snelson of Manteno; grandchildren, Vanessa (Chase Husack) Sportiello and Nolan Snelson, all of Manteno; sister, Susan Pralle of North Carolina; and brother, David (Tina) Vehrs of Lynwood. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Michele Sportiello; and brother-in-law, Bill Pralle.
A memorial service was held on April 14, at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Homes, Manteno, with inurnment following at All Saints Cemetery, Bourbonnais.
