Bobcats Tally 2 Wins, 2 Losses for the Week
Thursday, May 4, the Beecher Bobcat baseball team traveled to Peotone in a non-conference competition and brought home an 8-2 win against the Blue Devils. For the Bobcats, they scored 8 runs, on 11 hits, while committing 1 error. Nolen Lane and Quinton Allen each had 2 hits. On the mound, Trevor Stout took the win, striking out six in as many innings. Peotone was held to 2 runs, on 6 hits, along with 6 errors.
Friday, May 5, the Bobcats traveled up the road to Crete-Monee for another non-conference game but were unable to beat the Warriors, resulting in a 5-6 loss for Beecher. The game was close and went down to the final inning. Beecher took a 5-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh, but lost on a walk off. On the day, Beecher had 5 runs, on 10 hits, with 5 errors. Crete-Monee tallied 6 runs, on 9 hits, and 1 error. Zak Gorcowski took the loss for Beecher in relief.
The Gardner-South Wilmington doubleheader on Saturday, May 6, resulted in a split, with Beecher dropping the first game 5-6 and then rebounding to take the second, 4-3.
The first game was close, as the scored indicated, with the Bobcats tying the game in the seventh, as a result of 3 runs, but Gardner-South Wilmington took the victory on a walk off a wild pitch. The Bobcats scored 5 runs, on 9 hits, while tallying 3 errors. G-SW crossed the plate 6 times, on 8 hits, but committed 6 errors. Quinton Allen got no decision, while striking out 9 in 6 innings of work. Nathan Diachenko, in relief, took the loss.
The second game of the day provided a happy ending for the week for the Bobcats, as they came out on top, 4-3. Beecher scored 4 runs, on 5 hits, with 2 errors, while G-SW tallied 3 runs, on 7 hits, along with 4 more errors. With the game tied, 3-3, in the bottom of the seventh, Trevor Stout had a walk-off single, scoring Nathan Diachenko for the win. Nolen Lane pitched the complete game and was credited with the victory.
Overall Beecher stands at 12-13 on the season.
