Will County Sheriffs Warn of Bitcoin Scam

Spread the love

Scam Alert: Bitcoin payments being requested.

During the past week, the Sheriff’s Office has taken reports from victims who stated they were contacted regarding being in violation of requirements to register as a sex offender. The fraudulent phone number being used is 815-374-1921. The scammer identifies himself as Sergeant Johnson from the Will County Sheriff’s Office and states a $500 fee, to be paid in Bitcoin, must be paid immediately to avoid being arrested. If the unsuspecting victim does not answer the phone, a voice message is left with the above phone number and name asking to return the call.

The Sheriff’s Office advises residents to be aware of any callers who state they are from the Sheriff’s Office and ask for any type of payment to be made. The Sheriff’s Office DOES NOT call residents regarding warrants, sex offender registration, or any other type of payments.
Be aware: Bitcoin and cryptocurrency payments are irreversible! Once you have been scammed, your money is gone!
