Manteno District 6 County Board Member Resigns

Spread the love

By Stephen Nelson
At the February 13 Kankakee County Board meeting, it was announced District 6 (Manteno) Republican County Board Representative Ray Fairfield will resign from the position on Friday February 16.
“A decision on the appointment of a replacement will have to wait for 60 days after the effective date of the resignation,” said State’s Attorney Jim Rowe.
In other business, the county board voted not to purchase parcels of land near Island Park in Momence. Several residents gave public comment opposing the planned purchase before the vote. The county said the purpose of the purchase was to move forward with dredging work on the Kankakee River, like it has done in the recent past in Aroma Park.
Robert Laluna of the Highway Department was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for his 30 years of service to the county.
Declarations of surplus property for the coroner’s office was approved, along with a declaration of 12 surplus vehicles for the Kankakee County Animal Control Department.
Another ordinance creating a PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy Program) Area and establishing the Illinois Finance Authority Property Assessed Clean Energy Program was passed. The ordinance allows property owners of record to voluntarily request levies of special assessments to secure financing or refinancing of their PACE projects.
