Meditation Series at the Library: Join us at the library for a month-long free Meditation Series, every Wednesday in March, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. This is a four-part series exploring and experiencing different techniques in meditation, including mindfulness, autogenics training, and progressive relaxation.

The series is led by Gary Paruszkiewicz, a Certified Stress Management Educator. Gary lives in Kankakee and began the Kankakee Wellness Group and Worldwide Tai Chi Day, among many other contributions. He uses Tai Chi, Qigong, meditation, and other methods to promote healthy living and stress management.

Local Author Mark McCalleb at Library: Local author Mark McCalleb will be at the library on Tuesday, March 26, from 4 to 6 p.m. McCalleb, who was born and raised in Chicago, has long had a passion for storytelling and writing. He will be available for a meet-and-greet to discuss his novel, “Social Distance,” which tells the story of a family man whose career and life spin out of control as a result of the events of the COVID pandemic. This is a free come-and-go event. Come out to meet this talented local author.

March Soul Collections Book Discussion: Join library patrons for the free monthly book group, Soul Collections, a program that highlights Black authors and themes. On Thursday, March 28, at 5:30 p.m., in the third floor suite, the group will discuss thoughts on “What’s Mine and Yours,” by bestselling author Naima Coster. This is a sweeping novel of legacy, identity, the American family – and ways race affects even the most intimate relationships.

Library Closed on Good Friday: The library will be closed on Friday, March 29, in observance of Good Friday, but will resume normal business hours on Saturday, March 30, at 9 a.m. For ways to still access library resources, such as e-books and Kanopy streaming services, visit lions-online.org!
