Kankakee County Museum to Hold Ugly Sweater, Hot Chocolate Party
By Melanie Holmes
Get out your craziest, hairiest, blaringly “ugly” sweater and head to the Kankakee County Museum for a wingding of a party on Friday, December 16, from 3 to 8 p.m. There will be hot chocolate, a kids’ coloring contest, and visits with Santa. The River Valley String Ensemble will perform at 7 p.m., plus the Gallery of Trees will be on display.
At 5 p.m., in the Taylor One Room Schoolhouse (on the museum grounds), local author and illustrator Beth Swale will read from her 2021 Christian book, “The Big Hat Wise Man.” This book highlights the difference between being “smart” and being “wise,” with an overarching message of Christians’ love for Jesus.
Visits with Santa will take place during the entire event (3-8 p.m.), so bring the kids and grandkids. Also, please take time to vote for your favorite tree, all of which have been adorned by local organizations. The Gallery of Trees has become a treasured family tradition in Kankakee County and runs through December 30 during regular museum hours. The museum is at 801 S. Eighth Avenue, Kankakee.
