Bernard ‘Bernie’ Phelan

Spread the love

Bernard “Bernie” Phelan, 72, of Beecher, passed away at his home on December 31, 2023. Born on June 5, 1951, he was the son of Bernard and Helen Phelan. He married his beautiful wife, Geraldine, on November 17, 1973, in Alsip.

A devoted man, his heart overflowed with love for his wife, children, and grandchildren. He found joy in the timeless tunes of Johnny Cash, cherished moments outdoors, and the joy of cooking homemade meals. A connoisseur of life’s simple pleasures, he relished in the warmth of family gatherings, a cold beer in hand, while celebrating every precious moment. His legacy is laughter and the essence of a life well-lived.

Bernie is survived by his wife, Geraldine Phelan, of 50 years; three children, Bernie (Emma), Heather (Marty), and Darren (Tina); eight grandchildren, Brieanna (Nick), Annalise, Jackson, Daniella, Mateo, Gianna, Jordan (Destiny), and Austin (Amber); and three great-grandchildren, Josiah, Jesenya, and Rayna Geraldine. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Helen Phelan; and in-laws, Frank and Josephine Abraham.

Funeral services were held at Hack-Jensen Funeral Home in Beecher on Saturday, January 6, with burial following at Heusing Cemetery in Grant Park.

In honoring Bernie’s life, friends and family were invited to the AMVETs Hall in Beecher following services to share memories, celebrate a life well-lived, and find solace in each other’s company. Thank you for being a part of this commemoration of Bernard Phelan.
