Armed Robbery in Frankfort Township Bar; Suspect Shot and Killed
On April 30 around 3:15 a.m., Will County Sheriff’s Office was called to Ryan’s Pub, 7928 W. Lincoln Highway in unincorporated Frankfort, for a report of an armed robbery in progress. Two male, black, suspects had entered, armed with what appeared to be handguns, and demanded money from several patrons and employees.
Deputies were informed the suspects were wearing dark colored clothing, latex gloves, masks, and hoods. Deputies also were informed that suspects threatened to shoot patrons and employees if demands were not met. Victims advised deputies they pleaded for their lives as suspects brandished the firearms.
One patron had access to a firearm and fearing for his life, shot at the armed robbery suspects. Gunfire struck one offender several times. The second suspect fled on foot and got into a nearby vehicle and fled the scene at a high rate of speed, eastbound on Rt. 30 towards Harlem Avenue.
The shot suspect was pronounced dead on the scene by the Fire Protection District. Identity is being withheld until family notification can be made.
The suspects completed the robbery, although the Will County Sheriff’s Office indicated the deceased suspect had the majority of the robbery proceeds in his pockets. Crime Scene Investigators were summoned to the scene.
The two suspects’ firearms were recovered on or near the scene of the robbery and were later determined to be “replica” firearms, similar to air soft guns.
A Will County Sheriff’s Office statement indicates all witnesses have cooperated in the investigation, and statements were consistent with video surveillance footage. No charges have been filed in connection with the incident.
