No area baseball team made it as far a supersectional play, but one area player had a chance to pitch his team into the state semifinals.

Ian Tossi, a left-handed sophomore from Monee who is playing at Mount Carmel in Chicago, had a banner postseason.

He threw 12 shutout innings against Oak Lawn and bitter rival Brother Rice in the Illinois High School Association Class 4A regionals and sectionals respectively.

Tosi allowed two runs in seven innings on June June 3 and left the Crestwood Supersectional game with Providence Catholic with a 2-2 tie at Ozinga Field.

Providence scored an eighth-inning run off a Caravan reliever and went on to win the game , 3-2. Providence went on to win the Class 4A state championship in Joliet on June 8.

Tosi finished the 2024 season with a 7-1 record with a 1.76 ERA with 77 strikeouts in 75 1/3 innings. Opponents hit just .199 against him.

Early in the season, Tosi was ranked the No. 1 sophomore pitcher and the 19th top overall sophomore in the state by Prep Baseball Illinois.

Mount Carmel coach Brian Hurry, who has sent some players to the professional ranks, would not be surprised if Tosi can accomplish that.

“Based on what I see, yes,” Hurry said of Tosi. “I’m going off my experiences and my feelings. I look at him now and I think he can be a professional pitcher.

“He already put on 10 pounds in the offseason and he’s a worker. He has a bright future ahead.”

The Illinois Coaches Association announced its all-state teams.

Peotone’s Sophie Klawitter made the second team

Lorenzatti was also selected to play in the Primier Girls Fastpitch High School All-American Game, which takes place July 27.

Manteno players selected for the Illinois Central Eight all-conference team were Ryan Young, Josh Crane, Maddox Toepper, Aidan Dotson and Andrew Norred.

Young announced he will be heading to Southeastern Illinois College to play baseball.

One more game

He didn’t disappoint as he scored 18 points for the North and earned the MVP award.
