Susan Helen Wind Smith, 71, of Beecher, died Monday, December 17, 2018, surrounded by her children.
She was born November 9, 1947, in Hammond, Ind. She spent her life in the Chicagoland area. She and her husband lived first in Roseland and then moved to Lansing where they raised their family. Later they moved to Beecher. As a mother, she was very involved with her kids’ lives and activities. She loved being a wife and mother and found even more joy in becoming a grandmother.
Mrs. Smith is survived by three sons, Raymond Michael Smith Jr., Dennis Allen (Julie Brewer) Smith and Gregory Jon (Linda Stockman) Smith; a daughter, Michelle Lynn Smith (Luis Velazquez); grandchildren, Nathan Daniel Smith, Anthony Michael Tuley, Angelica Wind Smith, Fiona Anne Smith, Alexander Luis Velazquez, Zayden Karlos Velazquez and Elias Raymond Velazquez; five sisters, Natalie (Don) Genovese, Marjorie Kwasny, Janet (John) Mateyko, Beverly (Dan) Wilson and Alice Wind; two brothers, George (Patricia) Wind and James Wind; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Michael Smith, whom she married on Valentine’s Day in 1970; a daughter, Kimberly Anne Smith; and her parents, George and Catherine Lynch Wind.
Visitation and prayer service were held noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, December 22, at Zion Lutheran Church in Beecher. Services will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to Covenant Enabling Residences of Illinois, 15841 Terrace Drive, Oak Forest, IL 60452.
