State highway shootings decline as critics sue over ‘dragnet surveillance’

Disclaimer: Charges against each defendant are merely accusations, with all defendants presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

On July 28, officers arrested William Morris, 25, of Joliet, after conducting a traffic stop at Rt. 52 and Baker Road. Morris was found to be in possession of cannabis and a pill bottle, with pills that were prescribed for someone else. Morris was charged with possession of cannabis in a motor vehicle, speeding, operation of uninsured motor vehicle, expired registration, and failure to wear a seat belt.

On July 29, officers arrested Christopher Russell, 37, of Plainfield, after Russell surrendered himself to police on an active warrant from Grundy County. Russell was processed and released with a new court date.

On July 29, officers cited Alexis Chontal Felipe, 26, of Joliet, after conducting a traffic stop at Rt. 52 and Gougar, in which Felipe was improperly displaying registration. Felipe also was cited for no valid driver’s license and operation of uninsured motor vehicle.

On July 31, officers arrested Thomas Tataren, 51, of Mokena, after conducting a traffic stop for failure to stop at a stop sign at Eastern and Smith. During the traffic stop, it was discovered Tataren had an active warrant from Cook County for failure to appear on traffic charges in 1999. Tataren was processed, issued a new court date, then released.

On July 31, officers cited Johathan Aranguren Pinero, 28, of Joliet, after conducting a traffic stop at East North and Park Street. Aranguren was issued citations for speeding, operation of uninsured motor vehicle, and no valid driver’s license.
