Man Arrested After Alledgely Firing Gun Shots
Shortly before 1 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15, Kankakee County Sheriff’s Deputies received a call of shots being fired in the parking lot at a warehouse distribution center, in the 1100 block of Sycamore Road in Manteno. Sheriff’s Deputies were assisted by officers from Manteno and Grant Park Police Departments.
Police quickly ascertained no one was injured by the gunfire, which appeared to have resulted from an employee dispute.
After reports from witnesses, deputies placed Matthew C. Jones, 28, of Matteson, into custody. He was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm and aggravated assault. The firearm used in the incident also was recovered at the scene.
“It’s extremely unfortunate these types of occurrences have become all too common in and around the workplace,” said Sheriff Mike Downey. “I thank our deputies and neighboring agencies for assisting us and responding so quickly, which ultimately led to a peaceful resolution.”
