Local Scholarships Available to PHS College-Bound Seniors
Please note: The following 15 scholarships/awards have an application deadline of March 23.
Barbara Arnold/Steen/Aussprung Memorial Student-Athlete Scholarship is offered to one male and one female student-athlete who has received at least one varsity letter in a PHS athletic sport or who is participating in a spring sport and is due to receive a varsity letter during that sport. The senior must be continuing their education in the fall and currently have a 2.0 cumulative GPA to apply. Deadline – March 23.
First Bank of Manhattan Agricultural Scholarship will provide a $500 scholarship to a graduating senior from PHS who will study in an agricultural field at an accredited two- or four-year college. Deadline – March 23.
Friends of Music is delighted to offer a Friends of Music Senior Scholarship. This $1,000 scholarship for one graduating senior who is majoring or minoring in Music or Theater at a two- or four-year institution. Qualifications are: Three years of participation in choir, band or theater in any combination; a member in good standing in Tri-M, Thespians, or NHS; and acceptance at the school of choice for Music/Theater and a 3.0 GPA. Deadline – March 23.
Friends of Music also offers the Friends of Music Senior Award, which is a $500 award for a qualifying graduating senior who has been involved in the Peotone Fine Arts program during their tenure in the school district. Deadline – March 23.
The Joseph B. Koomar Scholarship is offered to a well-rounded student who is in the top half of the Class of 2018, excels in at least one extracurricular activity, and exhibits a desire for more knowledge by attending college. Deadline – March 23.
Gary Love Memorial Scholarship is offered to a well- rounded PHS senior who has shown a positive attitude. Selection will be based on the quality of the required essay. Deadline – March 23.
The James J. March Memorial Scholarship is for a PHS student who has an interest in continuing his/her education towards a career in healthcare especially, but not limited to, students attending the University of Illinois. The $1,000 scholarship is given by his family and March Family Dental Care. His legacy is carried on through his family, March Family Dental Care, and all of the recipients of the James J. March Memorial Scholarship. Deadline – March 23.
Peotone Education Foundation offers a $500 scholarship to a PHS senior attending a not-for-profit accredited university, college, community college, or trade school starting this summer or the fall of 2018. Students must have a 2.0 cumulative GPA to apply. Deadline – March 23.
Peotone Post Prom is providing three one-year scholarships to graduating seniors at PHS and are available to students attending any accredited college, university, or trade school in the fall. Deadline – March 23, with winners announced at the Post Prom event.
The Peotone Teacher’s Council is offering two $500 scholarships to high school seniors. One scholarship will be awarded to a graduating Peotone High School senior who has attended PHS all four years, with early graduates eligible to apply, and one scholarship awarded to a graduating high school senior who is a child or legal dependent of a Union member in good standing. Awards are based on academic achievement, commitment to community services and school-related activities, demonstration of leadership, recommendations, and an essay. Deadline – March 23.
The Van Iten Family Scholarship is offered to a Peotone High School senior who will be attending a college, university, or trade school starting this summer or fall. The onetime $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a student of commendable character, in good standing in the school and community, has shown a continuous high work ethic, and whose post high school education is dependent upon scholarships and grants. Deadline – March 23.
Beulah Voigt Memorial Scholarship is for students planning to attend a two- or four-year college or university. Given in memory of Beulah Voigt, her family is looking for a well-rounded student who is in the top half of the class and exhibits high moral character, and a strong work ethic. Deadline – March 23.
Lee and Nola Werner would like to provide a scholarship to a current year graduating senior from PHS or homeschooled graduate from the 207-U District. The scholarship will be awarded to a student who plans to pursue a Bible-based career at a Bible-based college. The recipient must exhibit high moral character and a desire for a better understanding of the Bible. Deadline – March 23.
The Wilton Center PTO is offering the Wilton Center Elementary Scholarship to a former Wilton Center grade school student planning on attending an accredited college, university, or community college. The student should exhibit high moral character and a strong work ethic, with the award payable to the college chosen. Deadline – March 23.
The Calvin C. Younker Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a PHS student who is well rounded and attained both academic and extracurricular recognition during his/her high school career. Given in memory of Calvin, by his family, the scholarship is available to a senior who will be attending a two- or four-year college after high school. Deadline – March 23.

Peotone Community Scholarship Association scholarships are for students who plan to attend any accredited college, university, or trade school. The numerous Peotone Community scholarships are funded by the contributions of community members and businesses, which include memorial scholarships. Winners of these scholarships will be announced at graduation. Apply by completing the profile on the Dollars For Scholars website.
