The past two months art students at Zion Lutheran School and Beecher Junior High School participated in the Lions Club International Peace Poster contest, hosted by the Beecher Lions Club. More than 600,000 young artists in 60 countries participate in this peace poster contest annually. The previous winner is from Bloomingdale, Illinois, and the poster is displayed in the Loyola Universities Museum of Art along with the entries of other finalists.

On October 25 and 26, the Lions Club held a celebratory pizza party, with 21 students from Beecher Junior High School and 17 students from Zion Lutheran School. Club President Frank Basile, Beecher Village President Greg Szymanski, and art teachers Marsha Blovin and Courtney Selucky celebrated with the winners of the local contest.

Gianna Fasano’s drawing, “The World Needs Peace Now More Than Ever,” from Beecher Junior High, and Zachary Baugh’s drawing, “Peace Keeps the World Together,” from Zion Lutheran School, were the winners. Their amazing artwork will be forwarded to the Lions Club District Governor for potential additional awards at the next level.
