Lady Bobcats Finish Fabulous Season
By Jim Piacentini
On Friday, May 24, the Lady Bobcats faced the Seneca Fighting Irish in Sectional final action and brought home the Sectional Championship!
The Bobcats immediately took charge – scoring 1 run in the first, 2 in the second, 1 in the third, and their final run in the fifth.
Ava Lorenzatti started the day with a home run and went 2-4 with 2 RBIs on the day. Emma Tiltges was hot, too, going 2-3, with one run batted in, while Elena Kvasnicka, who was 1-4, and Tayiah Scanlan, at 1-3, each had 1 RBI, in the 5-4 victory.
Lorenzatti went the distance on the hill, giving up 4 runs, but only two were earned, along with 4 hits, as well as 12 strikeouts and 4 walks.
On Monday, May 27, the Bobcats faced the Rockridge Rockets in Peoria in  Super-Sectional action. On paper, the teams’ records indicated they were very evenly matched, with the Bobcats at 32-1, and the Rockets at 31-3-1.
Unfortunately for the Bobcats, too many runners were left stranded on base. In the third, the Bobcats had runners on first and third with Elena Kvasnicka at bat. She got a hit and scored the first run – tying the game. Then in the sixth, the Rockets scored 2 runs and 3 more in the seventh inning to seal the 6-2 win.
The Bobcats just wouldn’t give up and, in the bottom of the seventh with the game on the line, the Bobcats had the bases loaded with two outs, but they just couldn’t bring anyone home. On the hill, Ava Lorenzatti took the loss, while recording 10 strikeouts and two walks.
It was a great 2024 run for the Lady Bobcats, finishing at 32-2 overall, and 16-0 and first place in the RVC! Thanks for a wonderful and exciting year!!
