Jan Leffelman of Peotone has been named the 2018 Woman of the Year by St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church Council of Catholic Women.
She was recognized by the Peotone parish during 7:30 a.m. Mass on March 18.
Jan was chosen for her many volunteer commitments to St. Paul the Apostle Parish, the most recent being the Shrove Tuesday Beef Dinner Raffle Chairperson.
She is a member of the Parish Council, the CCW Family Affairs Commission chairwoman who organizes the Back to School and Undy Sunday collections for Catholic Charities, is active on the parish Worship Commission, decorating the church for holidays, and, along with her husband, Al, is a counter for parish collections.
Outside of the parish, Jan is an active volunteer at Helping Hands Food Pantry.
She and her husband have been members of the parish for 10 years and are parents of two, grandparents of four, and great-grandparents of one. They will celebrate 50 years of marriage in 2018.
“The entire CCW Board would like to congratulate Jan for being chosen as Woman of the Year,” St Paul CCW President Maura Culver said.
“She has been a blessing in her countless hours of volunteering at church. She shares her talents and time willingly and is truly a gift to our parish.
“We are thankful for Jan’s service,” she added, “and her support of our outreach and parish activities.”
Leffelman and Culver will be honored at a Mass celebrated by Rev. Brad Baker, cathedral rector, and Rev. John Sebahar, spiritual advisor for the Joliet Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, at the Cathedral of St. Raymond in Joliet on Saturday, April 21.
All of the Women of the Year from the Diocese of Joliet and parish CCW presidents will participate in the Mass.
The theme of the Mass, along with the reception to follow, is “We Joyfully Believe.”
