High School Volleyball Results
Beecher: On Monday, August 28, the Beecher varsity girls’ volleyball team had a great three-set win at home against Wilmington, 25-14, 22-25, 25-19. Much of the victory can be attributed to the energy and enthusiasm on the floor and in the bleachers. Ava Olson was a momentum changer, with 5 blocks and 8 kills. Mallory Berry also helped with 7 service aces and 15 setting assists. Each player played a significant role in the victory. Their record stands at 2-1 for the season.
The next day, August 29, the varsity girls’ volleyball team started conference play with a decisive victory, also at home, over Gardner-South Wilmington, 25-17, 25-8. The entire team played a role in the victory. Ava Pattenaude had 10 assists, while Elena Kvasnicka had 6 kills. The team continues conference play on Thursday, with a big match against rival Grant Park.
Illinois Lutheran: On Monday, August 28, the Illinois Lutheran Chargers traveled to Iroquois West for a non-conference match. They started the night off slowly and dropped the first set 10-25. The team was behind again in the second set 12-17, when Azaylia Sanchez served 6 straight points to go up 18-17. It was a battle to the finish, but the Chargers were able to take the second set win 28-26. The Chargers were behind again in the third set but were able to get to within 2 at 20-22, although they were unable to get any closer and lost the third set and match, 21-25.
Mia Jacobucci led the defense with 18 digs, while Anna Oestmann led the offense with 7 kills and also added 10 digs. Emma Nagle had 3 aces, 2 kills, and 13 assists, and Kailey Van Es had 1 ace, 5 kills, 8 assists, and 10 digs.
Then on Tuesday, August 29, the Chargers hosted Grant Park in a River Valley Conference match. The Chargers came from behind 16-22 in each set to take a 27-25, 28-26 win. Emma Nagle ended the match with 2 aces, 2 kills, 13 assists, and 13 digs. Marisol Tafolla added 7 kills and 7 digs, Mia Jacobucci had 19 digs, Anna Oestmann recorded 6 kills and 12 digs, plus Kailey Van Es added 4 kills, 11 assists, and 11 digs.
The Chargers are now 2-3 and 1-1 in the RVC.
