Familiar with Manteno’s Snow Ordinance?

According to the Manteno Police Department, here is the Village of Manteno’s snow ordinance – in case you forgot or just didn’t know. Yes, there are some “odd and even dates, as well as sides of streets,” plus “after 48 hours rules” – but let’s make it really simple.

If your car is in the street and it has snow piled around it, dig it out ASAP and move it to your driveway, a cleared parking lot, or a cleared area of the street for the day, as it may be a few hours before the plow comes back down the street to clear the area where your vehicle was!

Please follow this simplified rule so Manteno’s awesome public works department can get all of the streets cleared.

7-6-15: Parking after Snowfall

(A) Parking restrictions shall be in effect for the entire village during any snowfall that accumulates to the point of requiring plows to clean the streets. In addition to the emergency snowfall routes described in subsection (B) of this section, all residents shall be required to adhere to parking restrictions as defined:

1. On odd dates, vehicles shall be parked only on the side of the street with odd numbered houses or buildings.
2. On even dates, vehicles shall be parked only on the side of the street with even numbered houses or buildings.
3. Odd or even dates shall be determined at 7 a.m. and run until 7 a.m. the following morning.
4. Street sides with open space or no buildings shall be considered as being numbered the opposite of the other side of the street.
5. These restrictions will be in place for a minimum of 48 hours after the snowfall ends or until any street in question is completely cleared.
6. Any vehicle that is not moved to a cleared area within a 48 hour period after being plowed around shall be considered in violation, no matter what side of the street it is parked on and subject to immediate towing at the owner’s expense.

(B) After a snowfall accumulation of more than two inches has occurred, no vehicle shall be parked on any street designated as an emergency snow route for a minimum of 12 hours or until such time as the street has been cleared. (Ord. 99-36, 3-6-2000)

The following streets shall be designated as emergency snowfall routes:

1. Walnut from its intersection with Baker to Cook.
2. Lynn Drive, in its entirety.
3. All of East Baker Street, lying east of Keigher Drive.
4. Katie Lane, in its entirety.
5. Todd Court, in its entirety. (Ord. 92-8, 1-11-1993)

(C) Any person found to be in violation of this section shall be subject to having the motor vehicle towed at owner’s expense and may further be subject to a fine not to exceed $200 for such offense. (Ord. 83-14, 12-19-1983; and Ord. 89-8, 12-18-1990).
