Emil Buchmeier Jr., 89, of Monee, died Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at Vitas Hospice at Franciscan St. James Hospital in Chicago Heights.
Born July 24, 1928, in Monee, he was a retired lifelong farmer and a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Monee. He was an avid reader and enjoyed history and geography.
Mr. Buchmeier is survived by two sons, Michael (Joanne) Buchmeier of Beecher and Clifford (Kathleen) Buchmeier of Bourbonnais; four daughters, Connie (the late William) Brittingham of Crown Point, Ind., Gail (John) Nantz of Momence, Laura (Bruce) Hallberg of Crete and Kim (Jeff) Cann of Milford; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Jeanette, Barbara, Linda and Cindy; two brothers, Lloyd and Larry; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He married Peggy D. Owens on January 4, 1947, in Monee, and she died April 30, 2004. He also was preceded in death by his parents, Emil Sr. and Laura Hohmann Buchmeier; a grandson, Mikie; and a sister, Virginia.
Visitation 2 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home in Peotone. Services 11 a.m. Monday, March 12, at the funeral home, with Pastor Peggy Johnson officiating. Burial in St. Paul’s Cemetery in Monee. Pallbearers Ryan Buchmeier, Kurt Buchmeier, Brian Buchmeier, Clinton Buchmeier, Bill Brittingham, Carl Brittingham, Chris Nantz, Mike Nantz, B.J.
