Editorial: Thankful Thoughts

Spread the love

I embarked on this journey just about a year ago. With no experience other than a degree in Journalism I had hardly ever used, I took over as editor and reporter for my community and a few others. I kept my day job as special education teacher, because frankly, I’m just not ready to quit teaching yet.

I’ve learned a lot and I’m so thankful for the opportunity and every person that has helped out along the way. From my right hand, Arline, who has helped me weekly navigate this, to every freelancer and person that has sent me a photo knowing I can’t be everywhere all the time. I’m thankful for the local journalism class that is fostering a love of writing and love for their community in their weekly assignments. I’m thankful for my family who has supported me in this endeavor; from my husband who sends me tips and makes deliveries, to my son who takes pictures of events and sends them to me.

My goal was always to provide news that matters to our small town communities in an unbiased manner; and I think we’ve done just that.

I’m so thankful to the subscribers, followers, and the people that purchase our little weekly every week. We’re doing great and we couldn’t do it without your support.

As we embark on another year, I urge you to consider the things you love in your town and support them. Donate your hard earned money to a local charity or volunteer your time. Support a local business instead of the chains. Support the local happenings in your town instead of driving over to the next town. Small communities are great because of the people that support them. Be one of those people.

I promise we’ll continue to try to cover it all.

Happy Thanksgiving!

With thanks and sending blessings,

Andrea Arens
