Sheriff Mike Kelley announced Friday January 6th that detectives with the Will County Sheriff’s Office have arrested a fourteen-year-old juvenile in connection to the 12/30/2022 murder investigation that occurred in Crete Township.

On 12/30/2022, at approximately 9:05 PM, Deputies with the Will County Sheriff’s Office were sent to the 1100 block of E. 263rd Street in Unincorporated Crete Township for a shooting. Responding deputies were advised by the Laraway Communication Center (LCC) that a black, male had been struck by gunfire after crashing his car into several parked vehicles. Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle flee from the area of where gunshots were heard, prior to striking the parked cars. The 911 caller advised that after the victim crashed, he indicated to witnesses that he needed help and then collapsed on the ground. Deputies were further advised that the male appeared to be deceased.

The victim was later identified as Chaves Bradley (age 25) of Hammond, Indiana. Digital evidence recovered on scene indicated that Chaves Bradley was supposed to meet the fourteen-year-old male in that area for the purpose of selling the fourteen-year-old a large quantity of marijuana. Chaves Bradley parked his vehicle in a prearranged location near the area of 263rd and Greenwood, shortly before shots rang out. Bradley was able to speed away from the scene as the fourteen-year-old suspect began shooting in the direction of Bradley’s fleeing vehicle.

Bradley’s vehicle was struck numerous times from behind by gunfire, and Bradley was struck once. Chaves Bradley would succumb to his injuries on scene. Seven spent .40 caliber shell casing were recovered at the scene of the crime by responding Crime Scene Investigators (CSI).

On 01/05/2022, the Will County Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) team assisted detectives in the execution of a search warrant located in the 26300 block of Greenwood Avenue in Crete Township. Three individuals were taken into custody without incident which included the fourteen-year-old juvenile and his parents. Once the individuals were secured, detectives and CSI personnel conducted a search of a residence. Numerous items of evidentiary value were recovered by detectives including a .40 caliber pistol and .40 caliber ammunition that matched the same type of rounds recovered at the murder scene.

The fourteen-year-old suspect and his parents were transported to the Will County Sheriff’s Office Public Safety Complex for further questioning. The firearm and ammunition recovered at the residence was found hidden, inside of the fourteen-year-old’s bedroom. That firearm was later discovered to be stolen from a residence in Naperville, Illinois.

The fourteen-year-old was initially charged with possession of a stolen firearm and first-degree murder and transported to the River Valley Justice Center (RVJC) awaiting his initial appearance.

Earlier this morning, detectives with the Will County Sheriff’s Office testified in court at the RVJC for a probable cause hearing. At the court appearance, the fourteen-year-old male was formally charged with three counts of first-degree murder, possession of a stolen firearm, unlawful possession of a handgun, and possession of a firearm without requisite Firearm Owner’s Identification Card (FOID).

Sheriff Mike Kelley would like to thank all the men and women of the Will County Sheriff’s Office that worked diligently on bringing this case to a swift conclusion with this recent arrest.
