Crete Public Library Now Offers Convenient License Plate Renewals

Spread the love

The Crete Public Library now is pleased to offer Illinois license plate sticker renewals as a service for the Illinois Secretary of State’s Office. In just a few minutes, staff can process a renewal and provide car owners with a new sticker.

To renew a sticker, bring in the Illinois Vehicle Registration Card or Renewal Notice, which includes the registration ID, PIN, license plate number, and renewal date. If the registration card or renewal notice is not available, simply bring the car’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), which can be found on a sticker attached to the windshield on the driver’s side. At this time, vehicle insurance information is not necessary but may be required in the future by the State of Illinois.

There are two parts to the costs associated with renewing plates at the library. The first part is the fee charged by the State of Illinois for the renewal sticker. This fee is based on one’s specific vehicle and should be noted on the renewal notice. Standard passenger vehicles currently cost $151, but personalized, vanity, electric vehicle, trailer, motorcycle, or other specialty plates have varying costs. The second part is a $9.50 service fee per sticker. This fee covers the library’s cost to the vendor, with whom we contract for the service. Show your Crete Public Library card and the service fee will be just $5. Payments can be made with cash and credit or debit cards. Personal checks are not accepted.

This service is normally available most hours the library is open, but calling first to confirm is recommended at 708- 672-8017. For additional details, visit the library’s website at cretelibrary.org/license-plate-renewals.
