Chargers Split in VB
On Tuesday, September 20, the Chargers took on St. Anne in a River Valley Conference match. The Chargers came out strong, scoring the first 6 points behind the serve of Emma Nagle. The Chargers continued to build the lead and won the first set 25-16. They began the second set with 4 straight points (2 aces) from Anna Oestmann to take a 5-1 lead, then built that lead to 17-13 behind another 4-point service run by Kailey Van Es. Some errors late in the set allowed St. Anne to tie the score at 23, but the Chargers were able to get the side out and match point, winning 25-23.
Zoe Biesterfeld led the offense and the defense with 8 kills and 12 digs, Kate Latzke added 5 kills and a solo block, while Anna Oestmann had 2 aces, 4 kills and 2 digs. Ryleigh Peters had 8 digs, and Kailey Van Es added one ace and 11 assists in the win.
On Thursday, September 22, in a home conference game, the Chargers faced Beecher and ended taking a loss, 16-25, 9-25. On the night, Zoe Biesterfeld had 6 kills, Anna Oestmann – 7 digs, Emma Nagle – 3 assists and 5 digs, and Kate Latzke finished with a solo block and a block assist. (See accompanying story for additional highlights.) The team’s record is now 5-12 and 2-5 in RVC.
The Chargers will be at Wisconsin Lutheran College on Friday, September 24, for the Lutheran Invitational Tournament.
