Belle M. Millar, 86, of Peotone, died Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at her home.
Born July 15, 1931, in Beecher, she formerly worked at Bennett Industries in Peotone, as well as being a licensed antique dealer, owning and operating Millar’s Antiques in Manteno, along with her husband. She also waitressed at Miami Gardens in Peotone during the Al Capone era, as well as the Snack Shop in Peotone. She was a member of the American Red Cross and taught first aid. She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, served as an election judge for many years, and was an active participant in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life since it began in Peotone. She always supported activities and events in the Village of Peotone. She loved to paint and enjoyed playing bingo, doing puzzles, and especially loved spending time with her family and friends.
Mrs. Millar is survived by five daughters, Patty Millar of Onalaska, Wis., Gail (Ray) DeBoer of Godley, Sally Millar and Sue (Joe Quick) Price, both of Peotone, and Debbie (Jim Ward) Millar of Steger; seven grandchildren, Brian (June) Millar, Heather Sanders, Christie (Eric) Anderson, Jennifer Price, Sheila (Bill) Lundberg, Raymond (Shelby) DeBoer and Steven (Aleah) DeBoer; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill (Ruth) Becker of Long Island, N.Y.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She married George H. Millar on November 20, 1949, and he died October 23, 2010. She also was preceded in death by her parents, William and Talitha Hack Becker; and three sisters and brothers-in-law, Leora (Mel) Young, Roselda (Joe) Finnegan and Cynthia (Floyd) Naese.
Visitation 3 p.m. until the hour of services at 8 p.m. Monday, April 16, at Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home in Peotone, with Nancy Wheeler officiating. Cremation rites accorded following services.
